Trustee Relations and Elections

The Office of the General Council and Secretary informs the Board of Trustees of board events and Oberlin news, and handles trustee nominations and elections. The general counsel and secretary keeps detailed minutes of board meetings available to all trustees. The office also informs trustees of meetings and supplies trustees with information on committees assignments, various reports, and a list of unfinished business from prior meetings. When a vacancy occurs on the board, this office manages the nomination and election processes, working in cooperation with various electing constituencies, including the board itself, the Alumni Association, or the graduating class, depending on the type of trustee being elected.
