Center for Teaching Innovation and Excellence

The Center for Teaching Innovation and Excellence (CTIE - pronounced “city”) helps Oberlin’s faculty be innovative, self-reflective, and effective teachers by providing a variety of services and programs, as well as a physical space dedicated to teachers and teaching located on A-Level in Mudd. CTIE organizes workshops for new and continuing faculty, provides personal and confidential consultation for faculty on classroom issues or concerns and technical facilities to allow for the taping of classes or simulated teaching situations, trains faculty members to help each other through confidential classroom observations as peer-teaching consultants, and assists faculty in creating teaching portfolios that help them chart their development as teachers. CTIE provides formal evaluation of teaching only at the specific request of an individual faculty member. All consultations at CTIE are confidential and are not be reported to department chairs, deans, or other bodies.
