The President

Oberlin’s president is the chief executive officer of the College and is responsible for providing general supervision over all affairs of the College. The president is elected by the Board of Trustees and, once elected, sits as an ex officio member of the board and the Executive Committee, and the president may attend any meeting of any committee or body subordinate to the board. The president is ex officio chair of the General Faculty and all subordinate faculties, including the executive committees of the College of Arts and Sciences and the Conservatory. The president works closely with senior administrators to manage all aspects of the institution. Although the president has broad responsibilities and thus authority, he or she still has only one vote on academic committees, and cannot solely dictate curriculum and faculty appointment decisions.
